HGV booking windows, explained: 13 months, 10 months, 7 months, and the 276-day rule
Facts verified August 20, 2026 against Hilton Grand Vacations club documents. Windows differ by membership type and can change; always confirm your own dates with the club before planning around them.
How far ahead you can book with Hilton Grand Vacations depends on which membership you hold and, crucially, on whether your window counts back from check-in or from check-out. Current trust-based products (including HGV Max) use 13, 10, and 7 month windows. Legacy deeded-week memberships booking club season use the older 276-day rule. Most missed reservations trace back to counting from the wrong end of the stay.
Key facts
- Trust products: home collection opens up to 13 months before check-in.
- Trust products: club-affiliated resorts open 10 months before check-in.
- HGV Max affiliated resorts open 7 months before check-OUT.
- Legacy deeded weeks: club season opens 276 days before check-OUT.
- Everything is first come, first served; prime weeks go in hours.
The two rule sets, side by side
Hilton Grand Vacations members are split across two generations of product, and the internet mixes their rules together constantly. Here they are separated:
| Membership | Reservation type | Window opens | Counted from |
|---|---|---|---|
| Trust product (Max era) | Home collection resorts | 13 months ahead | Check-in |
| Trust product (Max era) | Club-affiliated resorts | 10 months ahead | Check-in |
| Trust product (Max era) | HGV Max affiliated resorts | 7 months ahead | Check-out |
| Legacy deeded week | Home week | 12 months ahead (typical) | Check-in |
| Legacy deeded week | Club season | 276 days ahead | Check-out |
Why the counting anchor matters
A window counted from check-out opens earlier than the same window counted from check-in. Take a 7-night stay arriving March 10 and leaving March 17. A 10-month window from check-in opens May 10 the year before. But the legacy 276-day rule counts back from March 17, the check-out date, so it opens around June 14, a week earlier than an owner counting from arrival would expect. Owners who compute from the wrong anchor log in a week late and find the prime inventory gone.
Computing your own open date, by hand
For check-in anchored windows: take your arrival date and subtract the window. Arriving July 4, 2027 at a home collection resort on a trust product? Thirteen months back is June 4, 2026. That morning is your morning.
For check-out anchored windows: take your departure date and subtract. A legacy club season stay ending August 21, 2027 opens 276 days earlier, on November 18, 2026. Note it is the departure date doing the work.
Two owners in the same resort lobby can hold different windows for the same week. The only version of this that matters is yours, computed from your membership type and your exact dates.
The first-morning advantage
Reservations are granted first come, first served, on space available. Nothing is guaranteed. For school holidays, beach summer weeks, and the well-loved view categories, the meaningful competition happens in the first hours after a window opens. Owners who know their exact open date, and are ready that morning, book the weeks everyone else asks about later.
Cancellation has its own clock
At home collection resorts, cancelling less than 31 days before arrival can forfeit some or all of the points used, unless a reservation protection plan was purchased at booking. A booked week is an asset with a countdown on it; changes are cheap early and expensive late, the same shape as every other deadline in this system.
